Oxides - Oxydes

Sort by:

Synthetic Oxide Pigments are closely related to natural mineral pigments, as iron oxide—one of the most common naturally occurring colourants—is often their primary component.

The TerraChrom Synthetic Oxide Pigment Collection features high-purity, manufactured iron oxide pigments engineered for colour consistency, durability, and reliable performance. Produced through controlled processes, these pigments offer uniform particle size, excellent lightfastness, and stable, repeatable results across a wide range of applications, including paints, plasters, lime finishes, concrete, and decorative coatings.

Available in a spectrum of reds, yellows, browns, and blacks, synthetic oxides provide long-lasting colour without the natural variation found in mined earth pigments. This makes them especially well suited for professional applications where consistency and predictability are essential.

Compared to natural earths and ochres, synthetic oxides have greater colouring strength while maintaining a matte, opaque finish and strong UV resistance. When used as intended, they are non-toxic and environmentally responsible.

Applications & Use

Synthetic oxide pigments are compatible with a wide range of binders and systems, including:

  • Acrylic and oil paints

  • Watercolour and water-based mediums

  • Lime and mineral binders

  • White concrete, cement, and mortar mixes

To preserve the integrity of the final material, we recommend a maximum ratio of 10% pigment by volume relative to the binder or mix. For best results, disperse the pigment in lukewarm water before incorporating it into your paint, plaster, or cement. Reference images illustrate typical colour results at a 10% ratio in lime paint, decorative plaster, and concrete.

These pigments deliver deep, stable colour with excellent durability for painting, plasters, architectural finishes, and decorative applications.

Coverage & Mixing Guidelines

  • 150 ml / 5 fl oz of pigment will tint approximately 1 litre (1 quart) of paint or decorative plaster.

  • 1 kg (2.2 lbs) of pigment will tint up to 10 kg of paint, plaster, or white concrete/cement mix to the reference shade.

  • When used with grey cement, final colour will vary.

Synthetic oxide pigments are supplied in powder form and can be blended together to create custom shades.

Packaging Information

Smaller pigment sizes are sold by volume (e.g. 80 ml / 2.7 fl oz or 150 ml / 5 fl oz). Larger formats (1 kg / 2.2 lbs and above) are sold by weight. Because pigment densities vary significantly, volumetric packaging ensures consistency with our paint and plaster recipes.

* Pigments are shipped in bags or containers depending on size and packaging options.
** Colours shown are for reference only. Actual colours may vary depending on screen settings, base materials, and application methods.
