Sodium carbonate is an odorless, white crystal commonly used in glass making, ceramics, saponified waxes, water-based waxes, detergents, stain removal, laundry soaps, and in the paper and metallurgical industry.

For home use, sodium carbonate is a powerful cleanser and degreaser. It is also known as ‘soda crystals” or “washing soda” or “soda ash”.  It can also be used to strip furniture and mixed with Borax for bleaching. It is soluble in water. 

How to use Sodium Carbonate to clean 

For Cleaning: Mix 1 teaspoon of Sodium Carbonate in 1 L of warm water. Use a cloth to gently clean surfaces.

For degreasing: Mix 3 tablespoons of Sodium Carbonate and 1 teaspoon of detergent in 1 L of warm water. Use a cloth to gently clean the surface.

How to use Sodium Carbonate to make glue for paper

Mix together: 30g of lime chalk, 20g of sodium carbonate, 50g of casein powder, and 1/2 to 1 litre of cold water. Once a homogenous mixture is obtained, this mixture can be used cold for glue on paper.

Warning: Sodium Carbonate is non-toxic to the environment, but it can irritate the skin and can cause burns. Gloves and safety glasses are recommended when using this product.  Do not use Sodium Carbonate on aluminum. Do not use this product in food or drink.
