A Brief History

Sommières Earth takes its name from the town of Sommières in southern France. Historically, the clay was mined in the nearby region of Salinelles and transported from Sommières by train.

The original mine closed in 1981, and today this absorbent clay is primarily extracted from deposits in Spain.

Sommières Earth is also sometimes referred to as Fuller's Earth or sepiolite, minerals traditionally used for cleaning and oil absorption.
