Titanium Dioxide (TiO₂) – Premium White Pigment
TerraChrom Titanium Dioxide is a high-purity white pigment sourced and processed in Canada, valued for its exceptional opacity, brightness, and covering power.
Titanium dioxide is the industry standard for producing brilliant whites and light pastel tones. Its strong light-scattering properties provide excellent hiding power, allowing it to effectively cover surfaces and improve the brightness of paints and coatings.
The fine particle size allows smooth dispersion in both water-based and solvent-based systems, making it suitable for artists, decorative finishers, and industrial applications.
Key Features
• Sourced and processed in Canada
• Exceptional whiteness and opacity
• High tinting strength
• Excellent UV resistance and colour stability
• Fine particle size for smooth dispersion
• Non-toxic when used as intended*
*Always follow appropriate safety guidelines when handling powders.
Recommended Uses
Titanium dioxide can be used in a wide range of paint and coating applications, including:
• Acrylic, oil, and watercolor paints
• Limewash and mineral paints
• Decorative plasters and stucco
• Concrete and cement colouring
• Primers, coatings, and sealers
• DIY crafts and decorative finishes
It is commonly added to improve coverage and opacity, helping to hide surface imperfections such as drywall joints, patching, or uneven substrates.

Using Titanium Dioxide in Paint
Titanium dioxide is the pigment used to create the white colour in many paint and coating formulations. It produces a clean, neutral white with no undertones.
Increasing the amount of titanium dioxide will produce a brighter and more opaque white.
Typical dosage:
• Recommended average: 5% of the mixture
• Maximum recommended: 10%
This is approximately 20–75 ml of titanium dioxide per litre of paint or binder, depending on the level of whiteness and opacity desired.
Mixing Example
For 1 litre of natural paint:
-
Combine 40 ml titanium dioxide with 40 ml lukewarm water in a small container.
-
Mix thoroughly until the powder is fully dispersed and free of lumps.
-
Add the mixture to your paint and stir well.
Creating the Perfect White
If you wish to create your own custom white shade, start with an untinted base paint and add titanium dioxide gradually.
-
Prepare a small test batch (for example, 1 litre of paint).
-
Allow the paint to dry fully before evaluating the colour.
-
Adjust the amount of titanium dioxide until the desired brightness is achieved.
Keeping notes of your pigment ratios will make it easier to reproduce the same colour later.
Safety
Titanium dioxide is a fine mineral powder and may produce dust during handling.
• Avoid breathing airborne dust
• Use a dust mask when handling powders
• Work in a well-ventilated area
• Wear gloves when necessary
