Description

Using Black olive Soap for lime based protection Why black olive soap works so well!

  • Olive oil soaps are rich in oleic acid
  • Oleic acid reacts beautifully with lime to form calcium oleate
  • Calcium oleate is:
    • Water-repellent
    • Insoluble
    • Stable inside concrete pores
  • Historically used on stone, lime plaster, and concrete

Black Soap can be used diluted in water (20-30% soap to water) on interior wall surface for a light protective coating , the finish will be slightly matte to satin finish.  be sure that your lime paint has fully cured ( 2-4 weeks ) before applying a Black Soap protection.

What black soap does on lime paint

Black soap (savon noir) doesn’t form a film like varnish or acrylic sealers. Instead, it:

  • Slightly saponifies the lime surface

  • Creates a soft, breathable, water-repellent patina

  • Deepens color a touch (often a richer, darker tone)

  • Keeps the surface vapor-permeable (key for lime)

This is why it’s traditional in tadelakt, limewash, and mineral finishes.

Marius Fabre black soap is made from a high concentration of olive oil, Solvent-free with no artificial coloring, Marius Fabre olive oil black soap is biodegradable and safe for the environment.
