APPLICATION

LIME PAINT on Drywall, Plaster, and Previously Painted Walls
For drywall applications, a Textured Lime Paint (base coat) must be applied before the Lime Paint topcoat.
This base coat helps ensure even coverage, hides joints and patchwork, and improves adhesion for a longer-lasting finish. Following the base coat, apply one or two coats of Terrachrom Lime Paint (depending on the desired colour/coverage) for a traditional limewash look.
See our Surface Preparation and Application Guide under for detailed instructions.

LIME PAINT for brick & stone walls, fireplaces & exterior facades

Surface Preparation
-
Previously painted or treated brick/stone: Apply one coat of our Textured Lime Paint (base coat) before using Terrachrom LIME PAINT.
-
Untreated, unpainted brick/stone: Apply Terrachrom LIME PAINT directly—no primer required.
Adjusting the Limewash Finish
Terrachrom LIME PAINT can be partially removed to create an aged or exposed look. To expose brick/stone, begin wiping or gently washing the surface with water approximately 30 minutes after application—earlier in hot or sunny conditions.
If necessary, full removal can be accomplished with a pressure washer within 48 hours of application.
Note: Limewash appears more translucent when wet. Always allow the surface to dry completely before evaluating colour and opacity. The finish can be built up with successive coats.
Durability & Weather Conditions
LIME PAINT creates a long-lasting, mineral bond that will not peel or chip.
For best results:
-
Apply only in dry weather with no rain for at least 3 days.
-
Use when temperatures are between 7°C and 27°C (45°F–80°F).
-
Avoid applying within 1 week before or after frost.
With proper application, the finish will last about five years. After that, the colour softens into a natural patina that can remain beautiful for decades.
